snag,
I love you SL creations!!!
How do you create content for SL? And how is it rigged up? Like for example.. How does the engine know how a doll can move or not move based upon the device/gear she is bound in?
I've never cared about SL... I might have to rethink that!
Well I shall try to answer your questions though I do not wish to become boring and tedious about it, especially among those members here who are already very familiar with SL
As for content - such as what the doll wears - well there are hundreds if not thousands of shops in SL which sell an extensive range of outfits for the avatars in there. There are vendors for almost exclusively latex fetish wear places that cater for French maids even places that sell fairy or ballet costumes. Once you have learned about the world you can even try making some things yourself and if you are good at it you will be able to sell them in world to give you extra cash to buy other things. My own skills are making things are rather limited though I did create the building where most of the pictures were taken, it is my home/bunker where I mostly operate from. I also made some of the skirts that my dolls wear. The exercise treadmill in the pics is also another thing that I made.
As for how a doll can move - there are animation scripts that can control how an avatar moves how it sits stands jumps etc. All avatars start off with some basic walks (though they look a bit cartoonish and comical) But then it is possible to either pick up for free or buy other animations and gesture scripts that you can plug into your avatar. Such as very gender specific styles of walk. Now of course if an avatar has a style of walk that involves swinging the arms but then the avatar has its arms restrained then of course it is essential that the restraining device imposes a restriction upon the walk. That is in SL terms it has an Animation Override. This is governed by each animation having a priority setting. A walk should have a low priority whereas the animation built into a restraining device should have a high priority. Thus when combined when the avatar tries to walk the Walk animation can only operate in those areas which the higher priority is not overriding.
As for static restraining devices they are alternative version of the "sit" animation position. The avatar literally sits on the device and then the animation built into the device takes over control as to how that "sit" should be. As it the case with the suspension devices shown in my pictures.
The big thing in SL at the moment is the Restrained Life Viewer usually known as RLV. This is an alternative client software solution which replicates and in effect replaces the normal SL viewer client. It is used by "subs" in SL as it offers a number of features which in effect allow the nominated Dom/Domme to take control over the sub avatar such as forcing it to sit or to stand, banning it from talking or teleporting or more interstingly perhaps preventing the sub from changing its clothes while at the same time allowing the Dom/Domme the means to either strip or add items of clothing and lock them in place.
Does that at least begin to answer your questions?
